If there is one business marketing tool that small businesses must exploit, it is blogging. Whatever type of business who already owns a website must incorporate blogging into their digital marketing campaigns.

Blogs can be setup in a matter of minutes, the blog content though is probably the toughest hurdle that small business owners face. Not everyone has the time to sit down and write a blog post on a regular basis. Nonetheless, this hurdle should not stop you from utilizing a blog to power your lead generation and marketing.

If you already own a website, installing a blog section in your website will only take a matter of minutes. If you lack technical skills to execute this task you can contact your web designer and have them install WordPress either on a different directory or a subdomain. I recommend a directory within your root domain though for SEO purposes.

Will Social Media Eventually Be More Important Than SEO?

With the constant changes in the landscapes of Digital Marketing. It is hard to dispose a long list of questions regarding the future of Social Media and Search Engine Optimization.

Google has been dominating the internet for decades as the best search engine known to man.

Social Media’s approach to driving traffic towards a website is different than Google. But ultimately brands have to also be well exposed in social media if they wish to engage well with their customers.

In my own opinion, best we integrate both social media marketing and search engine optimization in our content creation. In this way we serve more engaging content to people looking for us across all channels of the web.

Furthermore, recently it is very obvious that Google has been paying close attention to the behavior of website content and links in social media channels. Whether it directly affects ranking or not, is a myth that hasn’t yet been debunked by experts, nor admitted by Google.

Keywords are not of a major importance anymore

Keywords are important otherwise it would be virtually impossible for the content to be indexed or discovered. Nonetheless, their usage changed. Meaning with Google’s AI advancing further, a published content no longer has to rely on keyword stuffing and exact keyword match. In fact, keyword stuffing may incur your website penalties.

Are keywords important in Social Media?

They definitely are, social media search also relies on a similar algorithm process employed by Google. While the behavior of their bots are not about crawling the entire web and relying on outbound and inbound links.

Social media’s reach to consumers is totally different. Hence, the likes and shares play a very important role to gather more impressions.

Impressions of your page or content in social media channels is a key player in your brand’s popularity. Social media’s promotion of content is not keyword based though and definitely not dependent on indexing and ranking for a particular spot in results. Social media’s game in content distribution relies popularity and trends.

Ultimately, meaning that you need regular stream of content to engage with your customers in social media. The only way for this content to be discovered is through keywords and hashtags.

SEO vs Social Media

To think of these two marketing platforms as opponents will not serve any marketer or blogger any good. In fact, we need to consider both of them as indirectly related to each other. Serving content consumers across the internet.

Social media takes a more personal approach because it has the ability to create impact among groups of friends, families and communities. Meaning if your content is shared by a family and friends the greater its impact on the reader.

However, search engines as the primary tool used by everyone when looking for information and products takes a more individual approach. Meaning, those who uses search engines are truly looking for something in particular.

If that is related to your business, then you have to make an effort to cut through the noise and optimize your pages to be visible.

Conclusion

Social Media Marketing and Search Marketing are two different things with similar goals in marketing, that is to engage with consumers and eventually lead to conversion.

Social media

Optimizing with social media takes a different approach than in search engine optimization. If you think I can help in any way to improve your search engine optimization or aid in creating content for your social media efforts. Please let me know.

How to Make Search Engines Love You

Every story of a startup blog sounds the same. Every blogger is begging for a little bit of love from Google, it appears that if Google can love you just a tiny bit, other search engines might as well be swooning at you.

I have been struggling myself, I want to prove that the techniques I know can make a difference and possibly gain me a fair rank. I discovered blogging when I was younger but never seriously considered a brand. Now that I am serious about this brand, PatBagano.com, I am pouring all knowledge and skills, including painful carpal episodes and eye strains. Ideal Blog Post Length

Truth About Ideal Blog Post Length

It appears to me that more and more bloggers are getting concerned with the ideal blog post length. Maybe because of the circulating myths about ideal blog post length. If you ask me, the length of the blog post is relative to what you want to say. Moreover, must also be relative to how you want your readers to respond.

We need more readers, and the only way to achieve that is through traffic from search engines and social media.

The behavior of the online audience changes more rapidly than Google’s algorithm updates. The taste of the people when it comes to content appreciation (in the collective sense) not only varies depending on the geographical location but also on what is trending, fresh and up to date. Understand online consumer behavior here.

Gone are the days of blocks of text, if you continuously write this way, you will only gain a handful of readers who can focus on your material and truly find joy in reading words. Today, more people enjoy images mixed with texts. Some blog posts that goes viral are mostly just images. Depending on your niche you will see trending blog posts sometimes in the form of an infographic.

It’s a fast-paced dynamic platform. Mastering the art of online writing consumes time and requires dedication. Dedication to deliver information in the format and length desired by your readers.

artofonlinewriting

As bloggers, we will always be on the lookout for something fresh, trending and entertaining, while keeping abreast with every algorithm update rolled out by Google.

As I was saying, it might be best that we base the length of our blog posts depending on what we want to accomplish with it. It appears that the length of a blog post has a direct impact on our readers’ next action. For example:

  • 75-300 words that is terrible for search engines and will not get attention in social media. Expect low or no shares, especially if you are aiming for LinkedIn shares. Nonetheless, this is an ideal blog post length to encourage comments and discussion.
  • 300-600 words are also known as a standard ideal blog post length. This length may work to encourage social shares among your readership. Not if you are a new blogger though. This is only an ideal blog post if you are a regular blogger who has been around for at least a while, with loyal readers. This length does not get the “authority value” that acquire ranking in search engines.
  • 750 words is what long time bloggers would vote as the ideal blog post length. Why? Because this the standard editorial length for news and magazines. It encourages inbound links from other blogs and promotes a good deal of shares in social media. Safe to rank in search engines.
  • 1000-1500 is great if you are really trying to express a point. This is an ideal blog post length for publishing how-to articles. Comments may be relative to whether the content you published requires further discussion. However, if it is instructional, expect low comments. If it is controversial though, expect a great deal of comments to flow.
  • Over 2000 words gets the highest attention from search engines. Proves authority over the keyword you wish to rank for. Nonetheless, this is only an ideal blog post length if there is demand for your material. Otherwise, your lengthy post will fall upon deaf ears. That will be a total waste of time.

Length matters, it matters on what you are trying to accomplish. But I am pretty sure you want readers and getting those readers to arrive on your page is through search engine. Making short posts extracted from your long-form content will then get you covered.

If you ask me personally though, just keep on writing. Write good stuff relevant to your industry, time will judge your search engine efforts.

If you think I can help you with your blogging or content marketing. Please message me and let me know.

The New SEO Is Easier Yet Time Dependent

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is definitely the backbone of every website who wish to establish a strong online brand. How we reinforce this backbone defines the strength of our online presence. Like the human body, you need constant supply of calcium to make strong bones. For your website, you need a constant supply of nutritious SEO content to make your website or blog stronger.

SEO is really no rocket science. The older tactics applied in SEO which are more focused on how to trick the algorithm process is gone. The black-hat practices are not only obsolete but considered to be dangerous in terms of fracturing your ranking credibility, forever.

seo no rocket science

SEO must always be considered as a long term investment. Anyone who promises your ranking to #1 spot for certain keywords within a few weeks is telling a lie. SEO is a long term commitment, building an SEO campaign today means reaping benefits after a few months.

Google’s algorithm complexities confuse ordinary people

Not everyone is expected to understand the complexities behind the Google algorithm. Yet, if we dig a little deeper into the topic, Google takes so many steps into simplifying all the complexities behind web development. Their updates in their algorithm processes are actually propelled by their desire to deliver a more efficient search engine for their users. Efficiency that is leaning more towards delivering relevant and powerful information.

p13127_02_obr02

For most business owners, the root of confusion starts with their mentality trapped in the engineering and coding behind website development. With limited knowledge in these areas of the internet, it is common to get lost.

Google has laid everything in simple terms. Over and over what we are being reminded of is to concentrate on content that is relevant and appropriate.

Mastering SEO 101

Google’s algorithm process was never released for everyone to analyze. Of course, that would mean everyone can make their own Google if they did.

Nonetheless, we only need to fulfill two requirements to rank for a given query. In general these are:

  1. Authority
  2. Value

These two requirements are often broken down by SEO experts into various categories, which is important in learning. Nonetheless, breaking it down can be truly confusing for those who do not have the time to master each and every aspect that contributes to authority and value.

No one needs to understand the complex structure behind the workings of Google’s algorithm process. You just need to implement the rules within Google Webmaster Guidelines consistently.

Authority on the other hand is built over time. Search Engine evaluate authority depending on the time you have been online, quantity of quality content and links to and from your page.

These are basic strategies that fulfill requirements to rank:

Content

Your website pages, static or dynamic must all be optimized with relevant content that is keyword rich. Your headlines need to be strong and written in a way that delivers value to users while triggering the search engines with use of keywords for indexing. Do this when writing a compelling copy for static pages like “Home,” “About,” or “Services.”

Your meta description tags can easily be manipulated through your CMS, if you are using WordPress, I recommend using Yoast to help you with on-page SEO optimization.

green-bullets-550x256

Content publishing frequency plays an important role in developing value and authority. Blog regularly to increase your freshness factor. Google values fresh ideas and rewards pages with fresh content higher rankings.

Inbound links

Authority is defined by your dominance within your online community. Google evaluates this by checking inbound links to your website. In other words, how many people have linked to your pages. If you are just starting to build an online presence, this might be a little bit of a challenge. Nonetheless, guest blogging can help you if you gain access to authority websites who accepts your guest blog pitch.

Use different sources of inbound links, it is better done organically, because search engines are programmed to identify inorganic backlinks that is being used by black-hat schemers.

Social media and business directories

Constantly engaging with your audience through social media benefits SEO. The algorithm processes values social media interactions. Meaning, while your links and content is being shared around and liked, your authority and value increase. So, do not dispose this idea completely and begin your social media presence immediately.

The-top-social-media-channels-brands-use

Business directories which allows you to build profiles to link to your website is yet another way of building authority and value. A business who is often seen active in various internet platforms with value and relation to their niche will most likely dominate SERPs.

Greater SEO challenges

Within the basic strategies mentioned above are the struggles and challenges of SEO. Basic strategies can easily be implemented. However, as I mentioned in the title of this post, SEO is time dependent.

Time dependent in the sense that you need to overcome several challenges before you can even see bits of results. Most business owners who cannot manage SEO and commit to the time required in building authority and value finds relief in hiring an SEO expert. Outsourcing to proper SEO workers can benefit your business a lot by shortening the time hurdle involved.
