Challenges and Pain on a Happy December, SEO and Content Marketing Rant

I really have no idea what I am doing as a content marketer and SEO specialist. Well I have plenty of ideas but in reality, there is just so much more to learn, I am currently facing challenges faced that are mostly mentally straining. I often wonder how it would best serve me and my business if I open an office, then I realized that would be throwing away my dream of becoming a nomad this coming 2017 and work while I explore.

My soul need to grow and where I am currently does not really promote growth because I don’t get to talk to new people. I need to fill my mind with something more nutritious while also feed my sexual self with something fun.

The Battle of Moving Links Upward

My current plan is to develop a strategy through on-page and off-page SEO to bury my client’s competitor down to the search results of Google. While I am mentally strained for the past month or two, I did show results. It was similar to looking at a newborn child when I saw my link on PR2 next to the main blog. It was consistently there for 2 weeks. Then comes the server and coding issues that returned “page not found errors”.

If it isn’t sabotage, I don’t know what else it could be. The company handling development and design has had so much from me that I think they began to ignore me recently. But little did they know how much the issue has started to cause me so much stress because of the amount of work I poured on SEO to get those links active.

My right breast has swollen and tensed because of gripping my mouse tighter, to that extent. It is not even ranking low, I guess those links were penalized because of the “page not found” issues had my dreams and hard work crash and shatter in front of me. All my calculations were wasted because of unreliable coding and web dev.

So, my advice to content marketers and SEO people, work closely with your coders or whoever is handling programming.

Now I am in the verge of trying to formulate something in my head, how do I get on the first page again and rank high on the page. I am running out of ideas but I have a new one that I guess I need to keep to myself. I don’t know, I feel paranoid that when I share it the trolls just know what I am doing next and send their bots to attack me.

I guess that is how you punish such a bad bitch like me. For the love of the God of Internet, what must I do to please you and leave my links alone.

“Denying Your Geek-ness”

There is no problem with being a geek. The society has granted appropriation for the term geek now. But I can’t help but try to deny that I am not. When in fact, all I think of most of the time are “web” stuff and marketing stuff. I even had a few consecutive dreams that sort of gotten rid of my lovely nightmares about dead relatives that my heart and mind is in love with.

Yes, I dream about how I can build better strategies, like even my sleep has been taken over by my job. That is when burnout is signaled. Last night I woke up with my left foot cramping because I skipped a night of sleep.

I am a geek in distress with no sex life. I accepted another gig just to distract me but it turned out the sexiness involved in that project is just slapping me with the reality that I am not getting “digged” recently.

Forgive my honest words, I don’t see why anyone who is reading my blog (are there still any?) be interested in the woes of freelance content marketing. Besides as I always say in the other published post, the reason this blog is named after me is because it is mine and all other things that has something to do with me.

Google Search Fluctuates a Lot

I don’t know what normal is, or how normal should be seen, but I am really about to give up checking on rankings, it appears that google search for the keyword I am working for goes up and down faster than a hand jerking a D**K.

Yes you heard me right Google. I don’t know what is wrong. Often I will not even touch my links and overly promote and just create content, and boom! It changes every 4 hours. The keyword isn’t even saturated, and the other links I am fighting with don’t even publish new materials.

The most fascinating thing about this is for 2 months of monitoring, they don’t even get enough link juice. What causes the fluctuations? Is my laptop hooked on a different internet? Am getting results over the airwaves from an alien mothership? LOL.

Well it is frustrating, weird and challenging. Must I mentally strain further just to prove my worth or give up and find new gigs that pays more? Besides I really need to earn more now that I am planning a move and started saving for my 2017 quest.

That’s it for now. This bitch will rest. Be good, be kind and always be happy without having to harm another.

What to Do If Your Brand Reputation is Destroyed

Building a brand reputation online appears to be even more challenging compared offline. In the digital age, you are not only trying to get the attention of an audience whose attention spans are less than that of a goldfish. Online, you are even trying to get the attention of people who easily believe anything published without verifying the source of information.

If building a digital brand is hard, imagine how much more it is when you need to rebuild one. Imagine all the years and investment you have placed on your brand now you are watching it crumble right before your eyes. Difficult and painful.

Risk Management Is a Need From Day 1

All business owners who are involved in any type of digital marketing has to consider establishing a risk management team from day 1. Risk managers do not have to be an additional personnel. In fact, you might want to delegate this task to content managers, writers or social media managers.

They do not have to do anything right away. What they have to do is just to keep an eye should there be distasteful content published about you. It can be a bad comment, review or a dedicated blog just to ensure your fall.

Knowing activities online that can have negative impact on your business is the key to developing a plan. It can either be strengthening your customer service, improve customer care or if it is time to call an online reputation management expert.

Luckily, if you catch it earlier, your chances of defending your brand’s reputation is a lot higher.

What If You Are Already Under Attack?

Don’t panic, don’t react and don’t do anything stupid like publishing content to defend yourself. Defending yourself will only make other consumers think and suspect negative assumptions about you and your brand.

It is best to get an advice from an expert right away to form a strategy to counter the attacks.

If the problem can be contained and stopped by improving customer service. Get a digital marketer who is also a customer service expert who can handle the situation.

If the problem is about bad reviews, call a digital marketer or micro-influencers in your niche to aid your dilemma. This is the time to get your tribe to help defend you. Tribe marketing is among the biggest kind of marketing today that can benefit businesses online, especially online reputation.

What If It Has Blown Out of Proportion Damaging Your Search Engine Traffic?

That’s when things get screwy. It would be easier if you have a friend in Google who can secretly penalize the site you are complaining about and take them offline. That is not how things work. Google is fair and treats every website accordingly depending on fulfilling ranking factors.

If materials that are negatively affecting you has been published and you did not take action before it grew in number, it will be hard to just make them disappear overnight, or a week’s time to even a month.

Most online reputation management firms would charge $10,000 to $15,000 just to accept your case but will not guarantee success if the brand reputation is severely damaged.

If links that randomly show up on results page next to you are getting larger. It is not totally impossible to revert the damage. However, the process will require analysis of the SEO ranking factors both yours and your peeves.

Your only defense is to weaken their content and produce stronger content of similar keywords that will hopefully bump them off to lower rankings. Proceed with caution though because there are a lot of things to be considered in terms of reviving the health of your brand. A wrong move can further fracture your SEO which will mean gain on your opponent’s pages.

If you think submitting content to bad ranking websites and article distribution will improve your content visibility, you are wrong. It might weaken your content marketing and SEO. Those pages meant to destroy you will gain advantage for higher rankings on keywords that matter to you.

Brand reputation is not to be taken lightly. A bad comment or an article intended to attack you might become like a parasite attached to all your listings online. Before it gets worse, address it right away or assign one of your staff to watch over your mentions and alerts.

Subscribe to google alerts if there are mentions of your name or your brand. Buzzsumo also offers brand mention alerts.

If things are already out of proportion and you start to lose traffic and sleep, let me know. I might be able to help without drying your marketing budget.

Undeniable Benefits of Online Reputation Management

Online reputation management is probably the least service looked into by most businesses online. Today, we stress so much on building our online reputation, boost our SEO and social media presence but little concerns are placed upon the risks when your online reputation starts to get attacked.

Online reputation management goes above and beyond Social Media Marketing and SEO. In fact, it is the first line of defense should your brand begins to acquire undesirable mentions. Even a single bad review needs to be handled properly to ensure things are under your control.

With the accessibility of the internet to almost everyone globally, it is not a question of when your brand will be attacked. A better question in place should be “if” your brand is under attack.

Here are a few benefits of Online Reputation Management

Gain dominance on SERP

You may dominate the #1 to #3 spot on SERPs (Search Engine Result Page) and work hard maintaining that. However, without planning should bad reviews or published content come up about your brand on the first page of the results, your reputation is in danger.

An effective online reputation management prepares you should these things happen, ensuring that you dominate the SERPs for the keywords most effective for your business. Otherwise, a bad review present on the 4th or 5th tier of the results can definitely hurt your reputation even you are on top.

Your online reputation manager must know how to handle this event.

Handling of attacks without sounding defensive

Attacks on your online reputation must be delicately handled. You will be wasting so much of your time and marketing money if you will counter the attacks by creating defensive content.

As I have mentioned on my article about internet trolls, the best way to handle anything that negatively affects your online reputation is to stop feeding their creators.

A truly efficient online reputation management would focus to strengthen and boost your content production that positively talks about your business. If you take this step, you stand a chance to bump off negative comments, reviews and published materials.

A Solid Social Media Presence

Today, the importance of SEO is challenged by social media on a day to day basis. While search engine dominance still proves to be the best way to gain traffic, we cannot dispose the value of brand awareness in social media channels.

Online reputation management will ensure that your brand is not only boosted online but also includes risk management and create advocacy. Today, it is easy to create a page that will only talk about how terrible a particular business is.

There are legal actions applicable of course should things blow out of proportion. An online reputation manager can have the situation contained by applying tactics to counter defamatory comments and published materials.

Is your brand under attack?

If your online reputation is under attack don’t hesitate to hire a professional who can handle the situation without hurting your business further. This is time to consider people who knows what to do and how to apply tactics proven to manage the current situation and risks.

The risks of being attack online is present from day 1. Whether your reputation is clean as a whistle or not. Big companies spend a large chunk of their marketing budget to ensure they protect their reputation both online and offline.

There are inexpensive tactics that may be applied to ensure your business retain the respect it deserves.

Bloggers Growing Twitter Followers the Right Way

Why do you need to grow your twitter followers?

Twitter is more than just a social media platform for bloggers. In fact, it is a great channel to distribute your content to people who truly cares about what you have to share.

A short story:

Before I started sharing tweets about content marketing, blogging, SEO and social media, my twitter account was based on my previous business, tea shop. When that failed back in 2015, I have not really opened twitter at all. I have no interest in using it ever again. I took my fall badly because of the unpolished stories that surrounds it.

It took me half a year before I decided to really establish another startup,, which until now is in its infancy. People were so confused about what I do in front of my computer daily and doing a lot of research.

In the lay sense I am just blogging, but anyone who has been blogging for a while will tell you that there is so much marketing and technical knowledge involved if you really want to make it to the top. And I do want to be successful.

Besides, blogging and writing is something I have been doing since 2008. Sometimes I think it is pretty stupid to have stopped writing and tried offline businesses to begin with. I am on and off as a blogger, in fact I failed so many blogs in the past and wasted so many domain names that are niche specific.

To make the story short, I reopened my twitter and was not surprised with the decline of my followers. Well I didn’t have much to begin with when I was tweeting about tea. I have roughly 700 or less.

I know that would even decline because I will be using the same account @complexiteapat and my tea friends will not really find my marketing, SEO and blogging posts appealing.

I was right, yet growing followers wasn’t that hard. In fact, just in a month after launching I grew about 581 new followers. The numbers are not impressive unlike other marketers out there. I will tell you later why.

Twitter is a tool, this is not a popularity contest

Twitter is a tool to get people interested in what you have to say. It will be impressive to have 10,000 people retweeting me or 100,000 people liking my posts and following my account. But I guess it is only impressive if I truly mean something to them.

In fact, I really feel great when 1 or even just 5 people mentioning me on a daily basis and found the content I shared beneficial. It feels better than having over a dozen retweets from bots.

The most counterproductive idea of social media is automation. This is just my personal opinion. Buying followers and subscribing to full automation of twitter loses the whole sense of “social”.

Sometimes it feels like if I automate my twitter it will be my bot against your bot and they both interact. I guess I am among the naïve few who still takes twitter very personal and don’t want to lose the personal touch on every tweet I send out.

It is in a way for me gauge my success in reaching my audience. It can be slow, but I like it that way. I am really proud of having 1800 followers today, I have followers who really engage with me and related to my industry and not random eggheads in my list.

I tried automating and it doesn’t work for me

I tried automating but felt bad after a week or two. The platform started thanking people randomly for following me more than twice in a day and sometimes even thank those who have recently unfollowed me. Another instance is thanking a mention that I would otherwise ignore because it is a quite a slanted comment. It is just terrible.

If you are a new blogger, I hope you don’t get intimidated with six figures or 7 figures of other bloggers. It is not how success is truly measured. Actually it is a measure of success if you truly owned and built it and guarantee that those hundreds of thousands are people within your industry or interested in further engagement. But if those followers are among the follow train you subscribed or you bought them. That is really counterproductive.

As I said at the beginning of this post, “Twitter is more than just a social media platform for bloggers. In fact, it is a great channel to distribute your content to people who truly cares about what you have to share.” Now imagine tweeting knowing no one will hear you because you purchased your followers. Who is fooling who?

Will Social Media Eventually Be More Important Than SEO?

With the constant changes in the landscapes of Digital Marketing. It is hard to dispose a long list of questions regarding the future of Social Media and Search Engine Optimization.

Google has been dominating the internet for decades as the best search engine known to man.

Social Media’s approach to driving traffic towards a website is different than Google. But ultimately brands have to also be well exposed in social media if they wish to engage well with their customers.

In my own opinion, best we integrate both social media marketing and search engine optimization in our content creation. In this way we serve more engaging content to people looking for us across all channels of the web.

Furthermore, recently it is very obvious that Google has been paying close attention to the behavior of website content and links in social media channels. Whether it directly affects ranking or not, is a myth that hasn’t yet been debunked by experts, nor admitted by Google.

Keywords are not of a major importance anymore

Keywords are important otherwise it would be virtually impossible for the content to be indexed or discovered. Nonetheless, their usage changed. Meaning with Google’s AI advancing further, a published content no longer has to rely on keyword stuffing and exact keyword match. In fact, keyword stuffing may incur your website penalties.

Are keywords important in Social Media?

They definitely are, social media search also relies on a similar algorithm process employed by Google. While the behavior of their bots are not about crawling the entire web and relying on outbound and inbound links.

Social media’s reach to consumers is totally different. Hence, the likes and shares play a very important role to gather more impressions.

Impressions of your page or content in social media channels is a key player in your brand’s popularity. Social media’s promotion of content is not keyword based though and definitely not dependent on indexing and ranking for a particular spot in results. Social media’s game in content distribution relies popularity and trends.

Ultimately, meaning that you need regular stream of content to engage with your customers in social media. The only way for this content to be discovered is through keywords and hashtags.

SEO vs Social Media

To think of these two marketing platforms as opponents will not serve any marketer or blogger any good. In fact, we need to consider both of them as indirectly related to each other. Serving content consumers across the internet.

Social media takes a more personal approach because it has the ability to create impact among groups of friends, families and communities. Meaning if your content is shared by a family and friends the greater its impact on the reader.

However, search engines as the primary tool used by everyone when looking for information and products takes a more individual approach. Meaning, those who uses search engines are truly looking for something in particular.

If that is related to your business, then you have to make an effort to cut through the noise and optimize your pages to be visible.

Social Media Marketing and Search Marketing are two different things with similar goals in marketing, that is to engage with consumers and eventually lead to conversion.

Social media

Optimizing with social media takes a different approach than in search engine optimization. If you think I can help in any way to improve your search engine optimization or aid in creating content for your social media efforts. Please let me know.
